About us
At ALTEX Textil Recycling, we’ve been building a sustainable future for generations – the first cornerstone for our recycling was laid back in 1936 by founder Bernhard Stienemann. As a family-run, SME company specialising in mechanical textile recycling, we give textile scraps a new lease of life to be reused for the benefit of nature and a sustainable future. With our strong partner network and mission statement: ‘Rethinking sustainability’, we want to make the world a better place by building a lasting future. In order to extract valuable resources, we rely on an innovative, mechanical approach in which textile scraps are broken down into individual fibres using roller technology.
The ALTEX team consists of 140 motivated and dedicated employees, who bring up to 3,000 tonnes of raw material per month back into circulation at 3 locations in Gronau.
Our product range includes shredded fibres, blends, short fibres and regrind, which we supply as valuable feedstock to various industries. We are a reliable supplier to the automotive industry, equestrian centres, the home textiles industry and spinning mills, providing them with feedstock for the production of various products.
I have long been passionate about circular economy and enjoy tinkering with technical solutions. ALTEX combines both interests perfectly – we make a meaningful contribution to greater environmental sustainability day in, day out. The possibilities in the textile sector are virtually unlimited and I have the feeling that I can learn or implement something new with every day.
Jan Stienemann
The history of the “ALTEX Group” takes us back to the year 1936. With a travelling trade licence in his pocket and a “Packfiets”, Bernhard Stienemann senior traded in scrap metal, furs and all kinds of scrap. This laid the first foundation stone for recycling as we do it today.
His son Günter Stienemann joined the company. Together with his wife Helga, they refined and specialised the collection, sorting and processing of materials for targeted reintroduction to the market.
This was followed by the founding of “ALTEX Gronauer Filz GmbH & Co. KG.” Under the management of Bernhard Stienemann junior, the company specialised in the production of needled nonwovens and continued to develop products ranging from carpets and geotextiles to special nonwovens, e.g. for the automotive industry.
“ALTEX Textil Recycling GmbH & Co. KG” was founded. With Karsten Stienemann as Managing Director and a strong team behind him, production capacity was further expanded. By consistently developing new products, the company was able to expand its customer base in a wide range of industrial sectors, such as automotive suppliers, nonwoven/needle felt production, home textiles, etc.
At the same time, “ALTEX Faser + Garn GmbH & Co. KG” was founded, offering semi-combed yarns for the carpet industry and speciality yarns for manufacturers of technical fabrics and ropes. Today, the company no longer operates separately, but under the name “ALTEX Textil Recycling GmbH & Co. KG“.
Thanks to short communication channels within the group of companies, product developments can be implemented effectively and the company can react quickly to market developments. Our customers universally benefit from our many years of experience in various production areas.
